2011 - 2nd Journey Day 6

DAY 16  (May 12, 2011):  Second Journey, Day 6
Psalm 104:13  "He waters the mountains from His upper chambers..."
Circumference of the Sea of Galilee,  Jordan River at both south and north ends of the Sea,  Caesarea Philippi

Please note that I’m posting two blog entries at the same time, so don’t overlook Day 15 as you’re reading here about Day 16.

Thursday, May 12th, dawned over the Sea of Galilee with dark clouds and a brisk wind.  From the city of Tiberias on the western shore it looked like this with only one boat out on the water:

Ferrell and I drove south along the western shore until we found a stretch of the Jordan River just after it exited the Sea:

Rounding the southern end of the Galilean Sea we headed north along the eastern shore and came to the Jordan River again just before it flows into the Sea of Galilee.  Scrambling down the embankment through many colorful flowers (and not a few sticker bushes) I found a tree very like the one in Psalm 1:1-3, which says, “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.  He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.”

We then pushed up into the furthest reaches of Israel where it becomes squeezed between Syria and Lebanon.  Here, just below Caesarea Philippi (about which I’d already posted back on the “Days 3 & 4” post of April 30th) the river which issues forth from beneath the rocks upon which Pan was worshipped flows down through one of the arguably most beautiful canyons on earth.  Truly, one is transfixed and transported by its glory.  Here are only two shots, and these aren’t even of the double falls which was probably in the vicinity of 20 feet tall.

Finally we drove past the ruins of Chorazin on our way back down to the northern shores of the Sea upon which Jesus walked.  And to think, He walked BOTH upon the shores and upon the Sea!

Oh!  The waters of Galilee!
